Good morning, Year 6! Today, we are embarking on a very special journey together. Before we set sail into the exciting world of learning, we need to ensure that our classroom is a safe, friendly, and productive place for everyone. Just like a ship needs a captain and a crew to navigate through the waves, we need some rules to help us steer through our day-to-day activities.
Imagine you're a superhero for a day (I know, sounds fun, right?). As a superhero, you have special powers to help others. But, every superhero must abide by a code of conduct to ensure they use their powers responsibly. In the same way, our classroom needs its own set of "super rules" to help us learn and grow together effectively.
Now, let’s gather around in a circle. Close your eyes for a moment and picture what your ideal classroom looks like. What kind of behaviour would everyone show? How would we treat one another?
Start to pass around a soft ball. When you catch the ball, share one word that describes a good rule for our classroom. It could be “respect,” “kindness,” “listening,” or anything else that you think is important!
After our sharing circle, we will come together to discuss the importance of classroom rules. Why do you think we need them? What happens if we don’t have any? I want you to think about how rules not only help us learn better but also make sure everyone feels valued and safe.
At the end of the lesson, we will work together to create our own classroom charter. This charter will include all of the rules we come up with as a group. Each of you will get the chance to contribute so that we can build a classroom environment that reflects who we are and how we want to treat each other.
