Starting Our Journey into Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Welcome to a New Adventure!

Hello, everyone! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure into the world of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). But before we dive in, let’s start with a fun activity that will set the stage for our learning!

The Emotion Wheel Activity

What You'll Need:

Step 1: Create Your Emotion Wheel

  1. On the large piece of paper, draw a big circle.
  2. Inside the circle, divide it into six equal sections like a pizza.
  3. In each section, write a different emotion, such as:
    • Happy
    • Sad
    • Angry
    • Excited
    • Confused
    • Calm

Step 2: Color Your Wheel

Use markers or crayons to color in each section of your Emotion Wheel with colors that you feel represent each emotion. For example, you might choose blue for sad and yellow for happy.

Step 3: Share with Your Class

Once everyone is done, we’ll pass around the basket. Each student will take turns drawing a colored piece of paper (or a small object, if you like!) from the basket. Then, you’ll share a moment when you felt that particular emotion and how you responded to it.

Why This Matters

This activity is not just a fun start to our lesson; it’s a powerful way to connect with our feelings and understand others better. Remember, Social and Emotional Learning helps us manage our emotions, build positive relationships, and empower ourselves to make better decisions.

What’s Next?

After our sharing session, we will explore more about each emotion, how we can manage them, and how they connect to our everyday lives. Get ready to learn, empathize, and grow along with your classmates!

Let’s get started!
