Introduce first graders to the concept of addition through an engaging story and hands-on activity.
Today, we’re going to venture into the magical world of adding numbers! But first, let’s meet some fruity friends. 🌟🍎🍌🍓
Once upon a time, in a colorful orchard, there lived three cheerful fruits: Benny the Banana, Sally the Strawberry, and Annie the Apple. One sunny day, they decided to have a party!
Benny said, “Let’s invite our friends! If I bring 2 apples and Sally brings 3 strawberries, how many fruits will we have for our party?”
Now, let’s add them together! Remember, adding is like putting fruits in a basket. If we combine Benny's apples and Sally's strawberries, how many fruits are in the basket?
Let’s try it!
Now that we’ve helped Benny and Sally, let’s create our own fruit baskets!
Cut Out Fruits:
Get pieces of colored paper and cut out shapes of apples, bananas, and strawberries (or use stickers!).
Create Your Own Basket:
Draw a big basket on another piece of paper.
Add Your Fruits:
Choose a number of each fruit and stick them onto your paper basket. Write down the numbers you used and add them together!
At the end of the lesson, let’s share our baskets and the total number of fruits we counted! 🥳
Remember, adding is all about bringing things together. Just like our fruity friends are coming together for a fun party!
Now, let’s get adding those fruity friends! 🍏🍌🍓
