Individual Work: Boggle Fun!
Objective
Students will engage in individual work using Boggle to enhance their vocabulary, spelling, and critical thinking skills.
Overview
In this segment of the lesson, students will complete five Boggle worksheets designed to challenge their word-finding skills. Each worksheet will present a new Boggle grid, and students are encouraged to find as many words as possible within a designated time frame.
Materials Needed
- Boggle worksheets (5 for each student)
- Pencils or coloured markers
- A timer (optional)
- Small rewards for participation (stickers, stamps, etc.)
Instructions
Step 1: Introduction to Boggle
- Explain the rules of Boggle:
- Players find words in a grid of letters.
- Words must be at least three letters long.
- Words can be formed by connecting adjacent letters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
- Each letter can only be used once per word.
Step 2: Distribute the Worksheets
- Hand out five Boggle worksheets to each student.
- Each worksheet contains a different 4x4 grid of letters.
Step 3: Set a Timer
- Allow 5 minutes for each worksheet. Use a timer to keep track, so students know when to move to the next grid.
Step 4: Encourage Creativity
- Remind students that it’s okay to create their own words if they can find ways to segment and connect letters.
- Encourage them to illustrate the words they find next to the grid for additional creativity!
Step 5: Share Findings
- After completing all five worksheets, have a “Word Sharing” session.
- Invite students to share some exciting words they found.
