Objective:

To explore and understand the significance of parables in the teachings of Jesus.

Bibles (NIV or other translations)
Whiteboard and markers

Lesson Outline

I. Introduction (5 minutes)

Greeting: Welcome participants and open with a brief prayer.
Hook: Ask participants if they have a favorite parable and why. Share an example to spark interest.

II. What are Parables? (5 minutes)

Definition: Explain that parables are simple stories used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson.
Purpose: Discuss why Jesus used parables (to engage the listeners, provoke thought, and reveal truths).

III. Selected Parables (15 minutes)

A. The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

Reading: Read the parable aloud or assign different participants to read different parts.
Discussion:
- What does this parable teach us about love and compassion?
- Who is our neighbor?

B. The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)

Reading: Same as above.
Discussion:
- What themes of forgiveness and redemption can we identify?
- How does this parable reflect God’s love for us?

IV. Group Activity (5 minutes)

Reflect and Share: Divide participants into small groups. Encourage them to discuss how the lessons from the parables can be applied in their lives today. Each group should choose one application to share with the larger group.

V. Conclusion (5 minutes)

Summary: Recap the key lessons from the two parables discussed.
Final Thoughts: Invite participants to consider how they can implement the teachings of Jesus in their daily actions.
Closing Prayer: End with a prayer asking for guidance to live out the lessons learned.
