Overview
This week-long lesson plan aims to enhance students' reading comprehension skills, focusing on identifying and analyzing the author's purpose, point of view, and the overall theme within complex texts. Activities

- Graphic Organizer Activity (10 minutes): Students should complete a graphic organizer identifying the purpose of provided texts.
- Reflection (5 minutes): Students write a summary of their findings in their reading logs.
Day 2: Point of View Recognition
Objective
Students will analyze different points of view in texts to understand how perspective affects interpretation.
Materials Needed
- Selection of excerpts from narratives (varied points of view)
- Chart paper and markers
Activities
- Mini-Lesson (10 minutes): Discuss first-person, second-person, and third-person points of view.
- Text Analysis (10 minutes): In small groups, students will read excerpts and identify the point of view.
- Class Chart (5 minutes): Groups present their findings, and a class chart is created to visualize different points of view.

Day 3: Identifying Themes

Students will identify themes within a text and support their ideas with evidence.

- Direct Instruction (5 minutes): Review the concepts of author’s purpose, point of view, and theme.
- Venn Diagram Activity (15 minutes): In pairs, students will select a text and create a Venn diagram to show how these elements interact.
- Class Discussion (5 minutes): Share diagrams and discuss how elements intersect in texts.
- Journal Entry (5 minutes): Students reflect on a text of their choice and write a paragraph incorporating all three elements.
Day 5: Culminating Project Presentation

Students will present their analysis, demonstrating their understanding of the week’s objectives.
