"¡Hola, clase! Bienvenidos a nuestra lección de hoy. Today we are going to focus on a very interesting topic: 'Describing Myself and My Peers' in Spanish. It's essential to know how to describe ourselves and others because it helps us communicate better and understand each other. For instance, I can say 'Soy alto y tengo el pelo castaño' which means 'I am tall and have brown hair.' Now, who can share how they would describe themselves?"
"Great job with sharing! Next, I will hand out some vocabulary lists. Please take one. This list includes adjectives and phrases that will help you describe yourself and your peers in Spanish. Let's go over some key words together. For example, 'amable' means 'kind,' 'intelectual' means 'intellectual,' and 'divertido/a' means 'funny.'
If you have any questions about these words, please feel free to ask!"
"Now it's time for an activity! I have printed description cards for everyone. Please take one. Your task is to fill in your card with your personal description using the vocabulary we just reviewed.
Remember to think about your physical characteristics, personality traits, and anything else you'd like to share about yourself. I will walk around the room to assist you if you need help. You have 10 minutes to complete this."
"Five minutes left, everyone! Make sure your cards are filled out. Now, let's move on to the next step. Please turn to your partner and take turns sharing your descriptions with each other. One person will speak while the other listens, and then you’ll switch.
This is a great opportunity to practice speaking and improve your Spanish skills. I’ll give you five minutes for this exchange. Ready? Go!"
"Alright, time's up! Please stop your conversations and return to your seats. I want to collect your description cards now. I may randomly check them to see how you used the vocabulary. Don’t worry; this is just to understand your progress better and provide feedback.
As I collect them, I’ll give you some comments on your work individually."
"Thank you for your hard work today! For homework, I’d like you to write a detailed description about yourself or a peer you just spoke with. Please include some of the vocabulary and phrases we discussed in class.
Make sure it is at least a paragraph long! Bring it to our next class, and I look forward to reading your descriptions. If you have any questions about the homework, feel free to ask now."
"Excellent job today, everyone! Keep practicing, and see you next time!"
Describe yourself using at least five adjectives. Use vocabulary from the lesson and provide both the Spanish and English translations for each adjective.
Write a short paragraph describing a friend or classmate, incorporating the vocabulary and phrases discussed in class. Make sure to include physical characteristics and personality traits.
Create a list of three new adjectives you want to learn that can be used to describe yourself or others. Provide their meanings in English and use them in sentences in Spanish.
Reflect on your experience of sharing descriptions with your partner in class. What was the most interesting thing you learned about them? Write a few sentences explaining.
Choose one of the adjectives you used to describe yourself. Write a sentence about why you think this characteristic is important to you.
Use the vocabulary from the lesson to write a dialogue between yourself and a peer where you ask each other about your characteristics and describe yourselves. Make it at least 6 sentences long.
Think of a famous person you admire. Describe them using at least four of the adjectives from our vocabulary list you learned in class. Include why you admire them based on their characteristics.
Practice saying your description out loud. Record yourself and listen to it. Write a short reflection on how you feel about your pronunciation and fluency.
Find an image of a celebrity or public figure. Describe them using the adjectives from our vocabulary list. Share it with the class in the next session.
Create a word puzzle (such as a crossword or word search) using the vocabulary words from the lesson that your classmates can solve for fun!
