Lesson Introduction: Exploring the Elements of Art

Imagine walking into a vibrant art gallery, each piece beckoning for your attention, each telling a unique story. Today, we are going to embark on an artistic adventure that will deepen your understanding of the very foundation of visual art – the Elements of Art!

Activity: The Mystery Art Box

To kick off our lesson, we’ll engage in a fun and interactive activity called the Mystery Art Box. Here’s how it works:

1. Gather Materials:

   • A box filled with various art supplies (colored pencils, watercolors, texture paper, fabric swatches, etc.)
   • Each item represents a different element of art (line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and value).

2. The Challenge:

   • As you enter the classroom, each of you will draw a number from the mystery box that corresponds to one of the elements of art.
   • Your task is to select the item that matches your number and use it to create a 2-minute abstract drawing or sculpture.

3. Group Discussion:

   • Once the time is up, we'll gather in small groups where you can share your creations. Each of you will explain how your chosen item represents the specific element of art you selected.
   • This is your chance to connect personally with each element!

• Define and identify the seven elements of art: line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and value.
