Welcome to the World of Factors and Multiples!

Objective: Today, we are diving into the exciting universe of Multiplication Factors & Multiples!

Warm-Up: The Mystery Box

Introduction

Let’s kick off our math adventure with a little mystery! Everyone loves a good mystery, right? For today's lesson, we’ll use our imaginations to explore factors and multiples. I have brought a magical box, and inside it are some special items. Make sure to listen closely!

Activity

  1. The Mystery Box:
Have a box (or bag) filled with various small items:

    • 6 toy cars
    • 12 marbles
    • 8 Lego pieces
    • 15 colored pencils
  2. The Big Reveal:
As I take each item out of the box, let’s talk about it.

    • What do you notice about the number of items? Can you think of other ways to group them?
    • For example, when I show you 12 marbles, can you think of how we might divide those into groups? (Factors of 12)
  3. Exploring Factors:
As we pull out each item, write down the number of items and discuss the factors. For instance, with 12 marbles, you can have:

    • 1 group of 12
    • 2 groups of 6
    • 3 groups of 4
    • 4 groups of 3
    • 6 groups of 2

This way, we see how many different ways we can group the marbles! Each way we can group them is a factor.

Transition

Now that we've discovered factors through our Mystery Box, let’s delve deeper into multiples using these same items!

Conclusion

Using our Mystery Box, we learned to find the factors of different numbers, and now we're ready to explore their multiples! Remember, every time we multiply a number, we create a series of multiples. So, are you ready to uncover more secrets in the world of factors and multiples? Let’s get started!
