Hook Activity: The Mystery Box

Show the Mystery Box:
- Bring a decorated box (a shoebox or similar) to class.
- Have some colorful wrapping paper around it to make it look exciting.
Invite Students to Guess:
- Gather the students in a circle and tell them, “Inside this box is something magical, but we can't look yet! First, let's guess what it could be. It might help us learn some new words today!”
Taking Turns:
- Allow each student to take a turn guessing what could be inside. Encourage them to use descriptive words, like “sparkly,” “soft,” or “big.”
- Write their guesses on the board to highlight new vocabulary.
The Big Reveal:
- After everyone has guessed, share some interesting vocabulary words related to the box's contents.
- Finally, open the Mystery Box! Inside, have flashcards of new words or simple objects that can be described with those words. For example, you might have a toy cat, a feather, or a small book.
