To engage students in the concept of factor pairs through a fun and interactive activity.
Imagine you are a detective on a thrilling treasure hunt! Today, we are going to work together to crack the case of the missing treasure using our math skills. Our treasure is hidden, and the only way to find it is by uncovering the factor pairs of a secret number!
What Are Factor Pairs?
Factor pairs are two numbers that, when multiplied together, give you a product (which will be our secret number!). For example, the number 12 has the factor pairs (3, 4) and (2, 6) because:
Your Mission
As a team of junior detectives, you will need to discover the factor pairs of our secret number. But beware! There might be clues hidden in your classroom to help you along the way.
Team Formation
Split into small groups of 3-4 detectives.
Clue Hunt
Each group will receive a "clue card" with their secret number. Your task is to work together to find all the pairs of numbers that can multiply to your secret number.
Using Your Math Toolkit
Make sure to use your multiplication tables and factor charts if you need them!
Treasure Map Creation
After you have discovered the factor pairs, create a treasure map on paper where you list out your secret number and its factor pairs. Illustrate your map with designs that represent your findings.
Once each group finishes their treasure map, we'll gather back together to share our findings. Remember: every adventure has surprises, and every number has its hidden treasures in the form of factor pairs! Let's embark on this journey and uncover the math treasure that awaits us!
Now, who’s ready to dive into the world of numbers and help find the treasure? Grab your clue cards, and let the factor quest begin!
