To spark student interest in grammar by setting a playful and engaging tone at the beginning of the lesson.
Begin by dimming the lights slightly and playing some mysterious background music. Stand at the front of the class and say:
"Good morning, detectives! Today, we are embarking on an exciting mission to uncover the hidden truths of our language. But beware! Our communication will be sabotaged without the proper use of grammar."
Hand out copies of the "mystery letter" which could read something like this:
Dear Friend,
I hope you are doing well. I seen your last letter and it was very interest! I has been thinking about the things you told me. In the next week, I plans to come visit.

Explain to the class that this letter contains several grammatical errors that they need to identify. Write on the board:
"Your mission: Find the mistakes and correct them!"
Divide students into small groups, allowing them to discuss the errors they find and why they are incorrect. After a few minutes, reconvene the class and ask groups to present their findings. For each mistake identified, discuss the grammatical rule that applies.
With students engaged and thinking critically about grammar, transition into the main lesson by saying:
