Direct Instruction (10 Minutes)

1. The Heart:

   • Describe the difference between the right side (pumps blood to the lungs) and the left side (pumps blood to the rest of the body).

2. Blood:

   • Define blood and its role in carrying oxygen and nutrients.

3. Blood Vessels:

   • Explain the types of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries.
   • Describe arteries as the vessels that carry blood away from the heart and veins as those that bring blood back.

  • Instruct students to color the arteries red and the veins blue.
