Every year, the town of Maplewood celebrated the arrival of fall with a pumpkin carving contest. This year was special because it marked the tenth anniversary of the contest. The entire community eagerly anticipated this event, which was filled with excitement, creativity, and friendly competition. Students from the local elementary school especially looked forward to this day, as it offered them a chance to showcase their artistic talents.
As the sun rose on the day of the contest, Sarah and her best friend, David, were determined to create the most spectacular pumpkin. They knew they needed a unique design that would impress the judges. Armed with their carving tools, a freshly picked pumpkin from the patch, and a notebook filled with ideas, they began to prepare.

After several hours of hard work, they stepped back to admire their creation. The owl was majestic with its large, carved eyes and intricate wings spread wide. It was certainly a fantastic sight. To add a final touch, Sarah and David found some fallen leaves in her yard and placed them around the base of the pumpkin, creating a cozy setting.
As they prepared to transport their creation to the contest, Sarah felt a surge of pride. "Whether we win or lose, I’m glad we did this together," she said.
When they arrived at the town hall, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. Children and parents mingled, showcasing their pumpkin carvings. There were pumpkins shaped like monsters, intricate patterns, and even a hilarious one with a silly face. Sarah and David set their owl pumpkin on the judging table and waited anxiously.
The judges walked around, observing each unique design. They admired the creativity displayed by all participants. When it was time for the winners to be announced, the crowd hushed.
