Introduction

Begin the lesson by creating an inviting and interactive atmosphere. Display a large banner at the front of the class that reads: "What is Friendship to You?" This will set the tone for a vibrant discussion on a topic familiar to all students.

Activity Setup

1. Spectrum Line: Use two opposite ends of the classroom to create a ‘Friendship Spectrum’. On one end, label it "Not Important", and on the other, label it "Extremely Important".

2. Initial Thought Provocation:

   • Give each student a sticky note.
   • Ask them to write down one word that represents their thoughts or feelings about friendship (e.g., Trust, Loyalty, Support).

3. Movement:

   • After they write their words, announce that they should stand at the point on the spectrum that they feel represents the importance of friendship in their lives (from “Not Important” to “Extremely Important”).
   • Students walk to their chosen position and can place their sticky note on the floor at that location.

Group Reflection

Once all students have chosen their position, invite them to share why they selected that particular spot. Encourage them to expand on their sticky note words and discuss:

• Why do they feel friendship is important or not?
• What qualities make a friendship strong?

This not only activates their prior knowledge of the subject but also fosters speaking and listening skills in a supportive peer environment.

Transition to Lesson Content

After the discussion has concluded, seamlessly guide them into the lesson content. Use their responses to introduce various aspects of friendship.

For Example:

• Exploring Vocabulary: Identify key vocabulary that came up during the discussion, such as "trust", "support", "conflict", and "loyalty".

• Writing Prompt: Transition to a creative writing task where students will write a short story or a poem reflecting their understanding of friendship, inspired by the words and ideas generated during the spectrum activity.
