Welcome to Subtraction Adventure!

Introduction: The Magical Forest

🌳 Story Time: The Magical Forest 🌳
Today, we’re going on a special adventure to the Magical Forest! In this forest, there are many colorful creatures and hidden treasures. But watch out—some treasures might vanish! Our mission is to help find out how many treasures we have after some disappear.

Activity: Counting the Treasures

Materials Needed:

Step 1: Setting the Scene

  1. Gather the children in a circle and place the blanket in the center.
  2. Place the 10 small objects under the blanket, and tell the story: "Once upon a time in the Magical Forest, we found 10 treasures. But oh no! We learned that some treasures might disappear when we’re not looking!"

Step 2: The Disappearing Act

  1. Ask the children to close their eyes for a moment and then ask them to open their eyes!
  2. Begin the "disappearing act" by secretly removing a few objects while they are closed. For example, take away 3 objects.

Step 3: Subtraction Time!

  1. Reveal the 10 treasures and say: "Look at all our treasures! But wait, how many treasures are missing now? Let's count together!"
  2. Count the remaining treasures with the children. “We had 10 treasures, and now we have 7 left! So, how many did we lose?”
    • Write it down on the big piece of paper:
      10 - 3 = 7

Step 4: Relating to Real Life

Conclusion: Giving Back the Treasures

🎉 Celebration Time! 🎉
To celebrate our adventure, gather all the missing treasures back under the blanket. Tell the children, “Let’s bring all our treasures back to the Magical Forest!”

Reflection

End the lesson by asking them to share what they learned about subtraction and how it relates to sharing and giving. They can even draw their favorite treasure from the Magical Forest!
