Introduction to Story Writing

Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Today we are going to dive into the wonderful world of storytelling. Can anyone tell me what a story is? Yes, that's right! A story is a sequence of events that have characters, a setting, and a plot.

Teacher: "Let's break it down:

Now, tell me, what’s your favourite story and why do you like it?”

Story Starters Activity

Teacher: "Now, I have some exciting story starter cards for each of you. These cards will help you start your story! I will hand them out, and each card has a different prompt.

Teacher: "When I give you your card, think about how you can turn that prompt into a story. Remember to think of your characters, setting, and plot!

Teacher: "Once you have your card, you’ll have 10 minutes to use it to begin writing your story. I want you to be as creative as possible!

Teacher distributes story starter cards.

Writing Time

Teacher: "Okay, writers! Now it’s time to let your imaginations flow. You have 10 minutes to write your story on the card using the prompt you received.

Teacher: "Remember to include all the parts of a story: a beginning to introduce your characters and setting, a middle for the action or conflict, and an end to wrap it all up.

Teacher: "I’ll be walking around during this time to help you if you have any questions or need some encouragement. Let’s start writing!"

Collecting/Checking Cards

Teacher: "Time’s up, everyone! Please put your pens or pencils down. I’m going to collect your story cards now.

Teacher: "I will check to see that you've included the main elements of a story. Remember, this is a chance for me to see your ideas and make sure you understood today's lesson!

Teacher collects the cards.

Closing Discussion

Teacher: "Well done, everyone! You all worked really hard today. To wrap up, let’s quickly discuss what makes a good story. What do you think?

Teacher encourages students to share their thoughts.

Teacher: "Great answers! I hope you all enjoyed creating your stories today. For homework, you'll complete your story based on your card at home and share it with someone in your family. You’ll want to focus on refining the details and structure of your story.

Teacher: "Thank you for your hard work today! I can’t wait to read your stories next time!"
