The goal of today’s lesson is to explore various traditions and celebrations from around the world, focusing on how they reflect cultural values and identity. We'll enhance our English language skills through reading, speaking, listening, and writing activities aligned with WIDA standards.
Mystery Box Presentation: As the students enter the classroom, have the box prominently displayed at the front. Invite them to guess what is inside but don't reveal the contents just yet.
Introduction of the Hook: Once all students are settled, introduce the "Mystery Box of Traditions" activity. Explain that inside the box are items representing various global celebrations and traditions.
Group Prediction Activity: Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students. Allow them 5 minutes to discuss their predictions about what items could be in the box based on the items they see.
Unveiling the Items: After the prediction time is up, take out each item one by one. For each item, give a brief description of the tradition or celebration it represents, prompting students to listen and note any unfamiliar vocabulary.
