Room and Child Assignments
- In January, apprentices will switch rooms and work with different children.
- Level 3 staff members are assigned primary responsibility for specific children:

Apprentices’ Responsibilities
- Apprentices will serve as secondary key workers until completing core child development modules.
- They are expected to provide care but may need guidance on educational tasks such as observations and milestone tracking.
- Staff are encouraged to support each other as a team in caring for children and maintaining cleanliness in rooms.
Planning and Curriculum
- Familiarize yourself with the curriculum available in the hallway and on child paths.
- Level 3s must plan activities that meet both the birth-to-3 and birth-to-5 criteria to help children reach their potential.
- Apprentices are also tasked with planning which will be reviewed for alignment with EYFS requirements.
Training Requirements
- A refresher course for Early Years (EY) has been distributed; completion is mandatory.
- Upcoming training courses will include safe sleep and behaviour management.
- Staff are encouraged to request training on additional areas of concern.
Nursery Meals and Lunch Boxes
- New menus prohibiting sugary and salty foods will be effective from 27th October.
- Check children’s lunch boxes and promote healthy eating; avoid consuming unhealthy foods in front of them.
Laundry Duties
- Ensure laundry for your room, including children’s bedding and wash cloths, is laundered by Monday.
- Replace any necessary items and report shortages.
Security Protocols
- The security system is operational; staff must wear lanyards/fobs daily.
- Validate identities of unknown individuals and check against the child collection list before allowing access.
Shift Compliance
- Staff start time must align with pay schedules; punctuality is crucial for operational efficiency and eligibility for bonuses.
- Follow instructions for taking dinner breaks while maintaining child supervision ratios.
Cleaning and Maintenance Responsibilities
- Staff must clean pots and cutlery after use in the staff room, ensuring that cleanliness is maintained.
Attendance Procedures
- Notify Fi, Nicole, or Ellie as soon as possible if unable to attend work to facilitate cover arrangements.
Adhering to Ratios
- Follow daily staff rotas and ensure proper child supervision at all times.
- Never turn your back on children during meals and maintain vigilance at all times.
Kitchen Equipment Policy
- Return kitchen knives to the kitchen after use; new knives with guards will be provided for each room.

- Emphasis is placed on each staff member's responsibility to their role within the team.
