Kia ora, little artists! Today, we’re going to take a magical journey into the world of sensory play using our senses to explore art in exciting ways! Sensory play helps us discover textures, colors, and sounds while having lots of fun. Are you ready to get your hands a little messy and your imagination soaring?
Before we begin, let’s transform our classroom into a vibrant art studio! We will create different art stations where you can touch, smell, and feel. Here are some ideas for our stations:
Texture Station: Gather different materials like cloth, sandpaper, bubble wrap, and feathers. Let the children explore them with their hands and describe what they feel. Is it soft? Smooth? Scratchy?
Colour Station: Use finger paints or coloured water in different containers. Encourage the children to mix colors and watch what happens. What happens if we mix blue and yellow? ✨
Smell and Sound Station: Incorporate scented playdough or flowers, and have various instruments like shakers or drums. Ask the children to close their eyes and identify the smells or sounds.
To get started, let’s sing a fun welcome song together. This will help us to feel excited about the day’s adventures!
(Sung to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)
Sensory art, here we come,
Let’s all play, it will be fun.
Feel and touch, see and hear,
Creating art that’s oh so dear!
Sensory art, let’s begin,
With our hearts and smiles within.
Now that we’re all warmed up, it’s time for our Art Exploration Activity! You can choose any station you like to begin exploring. Remember, there are no mistakes in art; just let your imagination run wild.
Once everyone has had a turn, we will come together and share our creations. What did you feel? What colors did you make? How did it smell? This is a fantastic way to celebrate everyone's ideas and creativity!
To wrap up our lesson, let’s gather in a circle and reflect on our sensory play experience. What was the best part? What did we discover about textures, colors, or sounds? Remember, every little part of our day is important, just like in our artwork!
Today, you all are wonderful little artists who explored the world of sensory play. Keep using your senses to create art every day, and don’t forget to share your masterpieces with your whānau!
Ka pai, everyone! Let’s clean up and then get ready for our next adventure.
