Direct Instruction (15 minutes)
Teacher demonstrates how to add two single-digit numbers using counting objects (e.g. 3 blocks + 4 blocks = 7 blocks)
Teacher shows how to represent addition problems using number sentences (e.g. 3 + 4 = 7)
Teacher provides examples of real-life situations where addition can be used (e.g. counting money, adding up toys, etc.)
Guided Practice (15 minutes)
Teacher provides several addition problems for the students to solve using counting objects and number sentences
Teacher provides assistance and guidance as needed
Teacher asks students to explain their thought process when solving the problems
