# Engaging Introduction to Procedural Texts
## Lesson Hook: “The Recipe Challenge”
### Objective
Today, we will explore the fascinating world of procedural texts, which outline the steps needed to accomplish a specific task or process. By the end of the lesson, you will be able to identify, analyze, and create your own procedural text.
### Introduction Activity
#### Step 1: The Setup (5 minutes)
As you enter the classroom, you are greeted with a tantalizing aroma of freshly baked cookies. You notice a table in the front of the room with two large cookie jars—one filled with delicious chocolate chip cookies and the other with caretakers, but you can’t decide which one to choose!
#### Step 2: The Challenge (10 minutes)
Once seated, I invite you all to participate in **The Recipe Challenge**! The twist? You get to create your own cookie from scratch using only **images and a few keywords** displayed on the board. Here’s how it works:
1. **Ingredients Section**: I will show images of various ingredients (flour, sugar, butter, etc.) and you will suggest a combination that you think works well together.
2. **Steps Section**: Based on the ingredients chosen, you will brainstorm together as a class the steps needed to prepare your cookie. Write down your ideas on a whiteboard.
#### Step 3: Reflection and Transition (5 minutes)
As the wonderful aroma fills the room, we will reflect on:
- Why is it important to follow steps in a recipe?
- What happens if a step is missed or out of order?
Through this experience, we will draw parallels between creating a cookie and writing a procedural text. Just as a recipe must be clear and sequential to guide bakers, procedural texts must provide clear instructions in an understandable manner.
