Lesson Introduction: Reading is Magic

🎩 Welcome to the Magical World of Reading! 🎩

Objective:

Today, we are going to explore how reading can transport us to fantastical places filled with adventure, mystery, and magic!

✨ Magical Warm-Up Activity: The Story Hat ✨

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Gather the Class:

    • As students enter, invite them to take a seat in a circle on the floor. Ensure the atmosphere is cozy and sparkly, with fairy lights or colorful decorations if possible!
  2. Introduce the Story Hat:

    • Hold up the magical hat and explain that it has the power to choose stories! The hat has traveled through many books and contains the magic of imagination.
  3. Pass the Hat:

    • Have students sit in a circle and pass the hat around. When a student receives the hat, they must draw a random picture book from the pile in the center of the circle without looking.
  4. Reading Roulette:

    • When they take out a book, they will have 1 minute on the timer to share what they think the book might be about, based on its cover and title. Encourage them to use their imaginations as if they’re wizards conjuring up stories!
  5. Group Sharing:

    • After each student has had a turn, invite them to share their predictions and ideas about the stories. Ask questions to spark more creativity, like:
      • What magical creatures might be in the story?
      • If this book was a movie, what would the title be?
