Objective: To engage Reception students (ages 4-5) in a math lesson through a thematic dinosaur adventure.
Good morning, young explorers! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure in a magical place called Dino Valley! Are you ready?
In Dino Valley, we will meet some friendly dinosaurs who need our help! Each dinosaur has a special number they love, and they want you to help them with counting and simple math!
Meet T-Rex the Counter!
T-Rex loves counting! Let’s count together!
🎵 Counting Song 🎵
(Sing to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")
"One, two, three, roar like a T-Rex,
Four, five, six, let’s count some more,
Seven, eight, nine, we’re almost there,
Ten big dinosaurs, everywhere!"
Triceratops and the Shapes!
Now we are going to find some shapes in Dino Valley. Did you know Triceratops loves triangles? Let’s look for triangular stones around us!
Now, it’s your turn to be a math-dino with our Dino Math Activity!
Dino Footprint Counting:
Let’s use Dino footprint cutouts. Place them on the floor and count as we jump from one to another!
Dinosaur Snack Sorting:
I’ve brought snacks shaped like dinosaurs! Let’s sort and count how many we have of each type!
What a fantastic adventure we had in Dino Valley!
Before we finish, let’s gather for a Dino Dance! Wiggle like a T-Rex, flap your arms like Pterodactyls, and stomp like Stegosaurus!
Thank you for being amazing math explorers today! I can’t wait for our next adventure!
Remember, math can be fun, especially when you’re with dinosaurs!
Let’s say goodbye to our Dino friends until next time! Roar! 🦕
