Welcome to our exciting dinosaur adventure, little explorers! Today, we are going on a math journey with some prehistoric friends. Are you ready to stomp like a dinosaur and solve some dino-sized problems?
Dino Stomp: Gather the children in a circle and start with a fun “Dino Stomp” to get them excited! Encourage them to stomp their feet like big dinosaurs. You could say, “Can you stomp like a T-Rex? Or maybe a Triceratops?”
Dinosaur Show and Tell: Ask each child to share their favorite dinosaur. While they do, hold up a large poster or a plush toy of the selected dinosaur to visualize how big or small they are compared to each other.
Dino Math Challenge: Once everyone has shared, introduce a colorful map of a "Dinosaur Forest" where different dinosaurs live.
Visual Aid: Create a simple poster or a digital presentation with pictures of dinosaurs in various sizes and quantities (e.g., 2 Stegosaurus, 3 Velociraptors).
The Challenge: Present a question such as, “If we have 2 Stegosaurus and 3 Velociraptors in our forest, can you help me find out how many dinosaurs are in total?”
Hands-On Counting: Use dinosaur figures or counters that the children can manipulate. As they count together, say, "Let's stomp out our answer together! How many dinosaurs do we have if we add 2 and 3?"
Now that we've stomped our way through some exciting math, remind the children of the fun we had and how dinosaurs can teach us important skills like counting!
Are you ready for more dino-math adventures next time? Let's see how many more dinosaurs we can discover together!
End of Lesson Hook: As you finish, give each child a dinosaur cutout and invite them to draw their favorite dinosaur and write (or dictate) the number of dinosaurs they drew at home for next class!
