Materials
- Playdough
- Pom-poms
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Hoops
- Balloons
Procedure
- Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet the students and introduce the lesson topic of fine motor skill development.
- Explain that fine motor skills are the movements made by the small muscles in our hands and fingers.
- Ask the students to name some of the things they can do with their hands.
- Scissor Skills (10 minutes)
- Give each student a pair of scissors and a sheet of construction paper.
- Show them how to hold and use the scissors to cut shapes out of the paper.
- Encourage the students to experiment with cutting shapes and patterns.
- Assist them if necessary.
- Playdough (10 minutes)
- Provide each student with a small ball of playdough.
- Show them different ways to manipulate the playdough, such as rolling, pinching, and pressing.
- Ask them to create their own shapes and objects using the playdough.
- Balloon Play (5 minutes)
- Inflate some balloons and tie them off.
- Ask the students to hit the balloons back and forth with their hands, trying to keep them in the air.
- Wrap Up (5 minutes)
- Review the benefits of fine motor skill development.
- Ask the students what they learned about using their hands and fingers.
- Thank the students for their participation.
Homework
- Ask the students to draw a picture of an object using their fine motor skills.
- Encourage them to use their scissors and glue to cut and paste shapes onto their picture.
- The drawings will be shared and displayed in the next class.
