Objectives:
Students will learn about the Five Pillars of Islam.
Students will be able to identify and describe each of the Five Pillars.
Students will understand the significance of the Five Pillars in Islamic faith.
Materials:
Whiteboard and markers
Images and/or visual aids depicting the Five Pillars
Handout with Five Pillars definitions and explanations
Homework assignment sheet
Procedure:
Introduction (5 minutes)
Greet students and introduce the topic of the lesson.
Ask students if they have ever heard of the Five Pillars of Islam and if they know what they are.
Explain that the Five Pillars are the foundation of Islamic practice.
Body (20 minutes)
Write and define each of the Five Pillars on the whiteboard:
Shahada (declaration of faith)
Salat (prayer)
Zakat (charity)
Sawm (fasting)
Hajj (pilgrimage)
Using visual aids, provide a brief explanation and significance for each of the Five Pillars.
Encourage student participation by asking questions and prompting discussion.
Conclusion (5 minutes)
Recap the Five Pillars and their importance in Islamic faith.
Explain that while some of our practices and beliefs are different, it is important to respect and understand the beliefs of others.
Hand out the homework assignment sheet.
Homework:
Ask students to choose one of the Five Pillars and create a picture or poster that shows their understanding of it.
Students should also write a short sentence describing their chosen pillar and why they think it is important.
Homework should be returned to the teacher at the start of the next lesson.
