By the end of this lesson, students will be able to understand basic music concepts, including rhythm, melody, and harmony.

- Audio device to play music examples
 
Procedure:
Step 1: Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet students and introduce yourself
 
- Explain to the class that we will be learning about the fundamentals of music theory
 
- Elicit from the class any prior knowledge they have about music theory
 
Step 2: Rhythm (10 minutes)
- Define rhythm as the pattern of sounds and silences in music
 
- Draw a simple rhythm on the whiteboard and ask students to clap along with it
 
- Introduce basic music notation and demonstrate how to read and play a short piece of music
 
- Distribute a handout with music notation and exercises for students to practice rhythm on their own
 
- Play a song with a distinct rhythm and ask students to identify and clap along with the rhythm
 
Step 3: Melody (10 minutes)
- Define melody as the main line of music in a song or piece
 
- Play a simple melody on a musical instrument or audio device and ask students to sing it back to you
 
- Discuss the concepts of pitch and intervals in music
 
- Draw a simple melody on the whiteboard and ask students to sing it back to you
 
- Distribute a handout with simple melodies for students to practice on their own
 
- Play a song and ask students to identify and sing along with the melody
 
Step 4: Harmony (5 minutes)
- Define harmony as the combination of multiple notes played or sung together
 
- Play a simple chord on a musical instrument or audio device and ask students to hum or sing along with it
 
- Discuss the concept of chord progressions in music
 
- Play a song and ask students to identify and hum or sing along with the chords
 
Step 5: Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
- Review the three basic music concepts covered in the lesson: rhythm, melody, and harmony
 
- Encourage students to continue practicing their music skills and exploring different genres of music
 
- Thank the class for their participation and attention during the lesson. 
 
Assessment:
- Students will be assessed on their ability to read and play music notation, clap along with a defined rhythm, sing a simple melody, and identify and hum or sing along with chords in a song. The handout exercises and song identification activities will serve as informal assessment tools for the teacher to evaluate student understanding of the music concepts covered.
