In today's world, communication plays a vital role in our daily lives. To understand how well communication is taking place among friends and peers, a survey was conducted. The purpose of this survey was to gather data about how people learn and practice speaking English, and how social media and other media influence their communication skills. The survey included a variety of questions on these topics, allowing us to collect and analyze responses from those we surveyed. This report summarizes the findings from the communication survey.
The first set of questions focused on learning and speaking English. We wanted to know how many people in the group were learning English and how confident they felt about speaking it. The results showed that more than half of the people in the group (65%) are currently learning English. A few people (15%) said they were not learning English but wanted to start in the future. However, nobody in the group speaks English fluently. Half of the people in the group (50%) mentioned that they practice speaking English with their friends, while a few people (10%) say they practice by speaking to themselves.
Next, the survey explored the impact of social media and the Internet on communication. We asked the participants about their use of social media platforms for communicating in English. The results revealed that everybody in the group uses social media to some extent. More than half of them (70%) stated that they often communicate in English when using social media. However, half of the people in the group (50%) felt that social media sometimes makes it harder to learn proper English because of the informal language often seen online. This indicates that while social media is a tool for communication, it can also create challenges. A few people (10%) chose to avoid using English on social media altogether, finding it easier to stick to their native languages.
The survey concluded with questions regarding other media such as television, movies, and books. We asked participants whether they engage with English language media and how this influences their speaking skills. A majority of the group (80%) reported watching English movies or television shows. More than half of the people in the group (60%) mentioned that they believe watching movies helps improve their English speaking skills. However, a small percentage (20%) felt that while they enjoy English media, they struggle to understand it fully. This suggests that while engagement with English media is high, comprehension can pose a barrier for some individuals.
The results of the communication survey reveal important insights into how individuals are learning and practicing English. While it is encouraging that more than half of the people in the group are actively learning and utilizing English through social media and other media, challenges remain in fluency and comprehension. The reliance on social media for communication can be a double-edged sword, offering practice opportunities while also introducing informal language that might hinder proper learning. As we move forward, it is essential to encourage more structured language practice alongside casual communication to help improve overall speaking skills among those learning English. This survey highlights the need for ongoing support and resources to foster effective communication skills in English.
