Set the Scene Begin the lesson by gathering the students in a circle. Explain that today, they are going to learn about some important people in their community.
Mystery Props Introduce the mystery box/bag. Without showing the students what's inside, explain that each item represents someone who helps us in our community.
Guessing Game Pull out one item at a time, holding it up for the students to see. For example, if you pull out the toy stethoscope, ask the class, "Who uses this to help people feel better?" Give the students a moment to think before allowing them to shout out their answers.
Discussion After a couple of items, discuss why these community helpers are important. Write the answers on the whiteboard or large paper. Questions to ask might include:
Transition to Lesson Once several community helpers have been introduced, say, "Today, we're going to dive deeper into who these helpers are and the amazing work they do to make our community a better place!"
This engaging activity will not only grab the students' attention but also set a positive and interactive tone for the lesson on community helpers, making them eager to learn more!
