Warm-Up Activity: What Can You Count?
Ask the students to write down 5 things they can count on a piece of paper.
After 2 minutes, ask for volunteers to share their lists.
Discuss as a class which items can be counted and which cannot.
Introducing Countable and Uncountable Nouns
Write two columns on the board labeled "Countable Nouns" and "Uncountable Nouns".
Explain that countable nouns are things that can be counted (e.g. pencils) while uncountable nouns are things that cannot be counted (e.g. water).
Give examples of both types of nouns and have the students categorize them into the two columns on the board.
Practice Activity: Count or Uncount?
Provide a list of words and have the students determine whether they are countable or uncountable.
Provide a visual aid, such as pictures of different items, to help the students determine the countability of each item.
After completing the activity, review the answers as a class and discuss any items that were unclear.
Closing Activity: Countable and Uncountable Hunt
Divide the class into pairs and give each pair a sheet of paper labeled "Countable and Uncountable Hunt".
Instruct the pairs to walk around the classroom and find 5 examples of countable and 5 examples of uncountable nouns.
Once they have found all 10 items, they should write them down on their sheet of paper and bring it to you for review.
Reward the pairs who complete the activity first with a small prize.
Homework: Countable and Uncountable Worksheet
Assign a worksheet that includes practice exercises for countable and uncountable nouns.
Remind the students to use their notes and the examples given in class to help them complete the worksheet.
