Starting a Lesson on Regulating Emotions for Grade 3

Introduction: "The Emotion Explorers Adventure"

Setting the Scene

Imagine you’re an explorer in a magical land where emotions come to life! 🎈 Today, we are going on an exciting adventure to discover how to be the best emotion explorers we can be. We’ll learn how to identify our emotions and how to manage them, so we can feel happy, calm, and in control!

Interactive Hook: The Emotion Treasure Map

  1. Treasure Map Display & Explanation:

    • Materials Needed: A large poster board with a treasure map drawn on it, different “emotion treasure” icons (happy face, angry face, sad face, etc.), and stickers.
    • Instruction: Present the treasure map to the class. Explain that all explorers need to know how to recognize and manage emotions as they journey through the land of feelings. Each emotion we discover will lead us closer to the "Treasure of Happiness!"
  2. Class Activity - Finding the Emotions:

    • Task: Invite children to come up one at a time and place stickers on their own emotion icons on the map to represent how they felt that morning.
    • Discussion: Discuss as a group how different emotions can affect our mood and behavior. Let the students share a little about their own experiences related to those emotions, but keep it light and fun!
