Lesson Length: 30 minutes
Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify and label the major biomes on a world map.
- Students will be able to describe the characteristics of each biome.
- Students will be able to explain how biomes are influenced by climate and geography.
Materials:
- World map

Procedure:
Introduction (5 minutes)
- Begin the lesson by asking students what they know about biomes.
- Explain that a biome is a large geographical region on Earth that is characterized by its climate, plants, and animals.
- Display a world map and point out the major biomes. Explain that there are several types of biomes, including tundra, taiga, desert, grassland, temperate forest, and tropical rainforest.
Class Discussion (10 minutes)
- Display posters or images of each biome and ask students to describe their characteristics.
- Ask students to identify which biomes they think would be the hottest, coldest, driest, wettest, etc.
- Discuss how climate and geography affect the characteristics of each biome.
- Encourage students to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
Activity (10 minutes)
- Distribute a world map and ask students to label each major biome.
- Provide a list of characteristics for each biome to help students identify them.
- Have students work in pairs or small groups to complete the activity.
Conclusion (5 minutes)
- Review the major points of the lesson and ask students if they have any questions.
- Assign homework, which will be to research one biome in more detail and write a brief report about its characteristics.
Homework:
Choose one biome to research and write a brief report (1-2 paragraphs) that includes:
- The name of the biome
- Where the biome is located
- The climate of the biome
- The types of plants and animals that live in the biome
- Any other interesting characteristics of the biome.
