Objective
The objective of this lesson is for adult students to reflect on their personal connection to Israel and understand the significance of Israel in Jewish culture and history.
Materials Needed
- Whiteboard and markers
- Handout with a map of Israel
- Access to internet for video
Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet the students and introduce the topic of Israel in my heart
- Ask the students how they personally connect with Israel and why it is important to them
- Write down their answers on the whiteboard
Israel's Significance in Jewish Culture and History (10 minutes)
- Provide a brief history of Israel, starting from biblical times to modern-day Israel
- Discuss the significance of Israel in Jewish culture and history
- Use the handout with a map of Israel to visually show the location and size of the country
Video: "Israel: A Small Country with a Big Story" (5 minutes)
- Show a video that highlights Israel's history and cultural significance
- Discuss the video with the students and ask for their thoughts and feelings
Sharing Personal Connection to Israel (10 minutes)
- Ask each student to share their personal connection with Israel and why it is important to them
- Encourage discussion and ask follow-up questions
Homework (5 minutes)
- Assign the students to research and write a one-page reflection on their personal connection to Israel and how it has impacted their lives
Conclusion (5 minutes)
- Summarize the importance of Israel in Jewish culture and history
