Good morning class! Today we're going to be learning about ancient Egypt. Do any of you know anything about ancient Egypt?
Now let's take a look at this world map poster that I have here. Can anyone point out where Egypt is located? That's right, it's right here. (point to Egypt on the map) Egypt is located in northeast Africa and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the east.
Egypt is known for many things, but one of the most important is the Nile River. The Nile River was very important to the development of ancient Egypt. It provided a source of water and fertile land for the crops they grew.
Now that we know where Egypt is located, let's move on to some of the landmarks and features of ancient Egypt. We're going to work in groups of 4 for this activity. I'm going to give each group a set of picture cards of ancient Egyptian landmarks and features. Your task is to match the picture cards to their names and descriptions.
I'll be walking around to assist you if you need any help. You have 10 minutes to complete this activity.
Great job everyone! You did a great job matching the picture cards with their names and descriptions. Now, I want you to take this printable card and write down 3 facts you learned about ancient Egypt.
Before we end today's lesson, I want to assign some homework. You will be receiving a worksheet on the daily life of ancient Egyptians. I expect you all to complete it and hand it in during our next class. Remember that this assignment will be checked without anyone presenting their answers in front of the class.
That brings us to the end of today's lesson. Let's go over what we learned today. Who can tell me where Egypt is located? (wait for response) That's right, it's located in northeast Africa. We also learned about some major landmarks and features of ancient Egypt. Don't forget to complete your homework assignment on the daily life of ancient Egyptians. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me now. Goodbye!
