Rounders
Year/Grade 6 (10-11 years old)
30 minutes
Begin the lesson with a dynamic warm-up to get students moving and ready for activity. Examples include jog-in-place, jumping jacks, or lunges.
Explain that Rounders is a bat-and-ball game similar to baseball or softball, but with some unique rules. Divide students into two teams and assign team names.
Explain the rules of rounders, briefly covering topics such as:
Divide the students into two teams and define the playing area using cones or markers. Assign a player from each team to serve as the pitcher, while the rest of the team acts as the fielders. The pitcher throws the ball to the opposing team, and the batters try to hit the ball and run around the designated bases to score points. Rotate pitchers and fielders as needed.
Split the group into two teams, with each team taking turns to bat and field. The team with the most runs after the allotted time is the winner.
End the lesson with a cooldown activity, such as stretching or deep breathing exercises, to bring the students' heart rate back down and prepare them for the next activity.
Recap the key learning points of the lesson, and ask students to reflect on how they worked together as a team. Encourage them to continue practicing their teamwork and communication skills both on and off the playing field.
