Imagine walking through an art gallery where every painting tells the story of a person. As you admire the diverse portraits, you can't help but notice something striking: the beautiful variations in skin tones. From the lightest ivory to the richest mahogany, each tone represents a unique culture, history, and individual.
Today, we embark on an exciting journey into the world of colours — specifically, how to mix our paints and create a spectrum of skin tones that truly reflect the diversity of human experiences.
To start, I’d like you to close your eyes and think about your favourite person. What colour best represents their skin tone? It might be a soft peach, a warm brown, or even a reddish hue! Now, with your eyes still closed, take a deep breath. When you open them, you will be greeted with a special set of paint tubes. Each of you will have the opportunity to mix your favourite skin tone using just three primary colours.
Our goal today is to understand the science and art of colour mixing. Not only will you learn how to create various skin tones, but you will also gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty of diversity in art. As we mix, we'll discuss the importance of representation in the world of art and how colours can evoke emotions and tell stories.
Before we dive in, let’s gather around the whiteboard where I will demonstrate the basics of colour theory! We'll also review how to observe and describe skin tones, looking at examples of our favourite artworks. Remember, the art we create today represents not just skill, but respect and understanding of the diversity that surrounds us.
Are you ready to unleash your creativity and start mixing? Let’s bring our colours to life! 🎨✨
