The simple past is a vital tense for English language learners. It helps to express things that have happened in the past. In this lesson, we will explore the use of simple past, and its various forms.
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to understand and correctly use the Simple Past tense.
To start the lesson, we will watch a compilation of clips from popular TV shows which depict important events that have happened in the past. Students will be encouraged to recognize the context of what they have seen and then discuss it in small groups.
After the activity a discussion will ensue to encourage the students to recognise and indicate their understanding of the tense.
Through this lesson we hope to have given students the basic knowledge they need to use the Simple Past tense. It is important to remember that like many things in life, the use of this tense will take practice. We encourage you to use it as much as possible in your writing or speech practice to solidify your understanding of it.
