Today, we're going to learn about a special topic: Autism Awareness. We want to understand what autism is, how it affects some friends, and how we can make everyone feel included and happy!
Set the Scene: Gather the students in a circle and place the mystery box in the middle. Tell them that something special is inside that will help us learn about autism today!
Build Anticipation: Show them the colorful scarves. Ask the children to imagine if they were making a special blanket to keep a friend warm. Explain that everyone has different things that make them unique, just like the scarves!
Reveal the Surprise: Open the box and slowly pull out the toy or picture that symbolizes uniqueness. Explain that just like the toy is special, some of our friends see the world in a different way because they have autism.
Discussion Starter: Ask the students:
Now that we understand a little bit about our special mystery, let's dive deeper into what autism is and how we can celebrate our friends who have autism!
By using this engaging and interactive introduction, you’ll set a positive tone for the lesson on autism awareness while encouraging empathy and understanding.
