Before we start bouncing into our activities, let’s talk about what LEAP means. LEAP stands for Listening, Engaging, Analyzing, and Producing. Each of these skills is like a special tool that helps us become amazing readers and writers.

Creative Kick-Off: The LEAP Challenge!

Materials Needed:

• A soft ball or stuffed animal
• A timer (you can use a phone or a clock)
• A whiteboard or paper for notes

What to Do:

1. Gather Around: Form a circle with your classmates.
2. The LEAP Ball: Start with the soft ball or stuffed animal. One student begins by throwing the ball to someone else in the circle.
3. Time to Leap!: When the student catches the ball, they must shout out one word that they associate with LEAP. For example, they might shout “Listen!” or “Analyze!”
4. Keep it Going: Set a timer for 3 minutes. Keep passing the ball around, and make sure everybody has a turn before the time runs out!
