Introduce preschoolers to basic counting and number recognition through an engaging Easter-themed activity.
Gather the children in a circle and begin by using an engaging storytelling approach:
"Good morning, everyone! Today we’re going to go on a magical Easter egg hunt right here in our classroom! But first, we have to gather our special Easter eggs. Can anyone tell me what colours eggs can be? (Encourage kids to share their thoughts!)"
Bring out the basket of colorful eggs. Hold them up one by one, allowing the children to see and name the colours.
"As we get ready for our hunt, let's count how many eggs we have together! Ready? One, two, three... (Count with the kids until you reach the total number of eggs.)"
Write down the number of eggs on the whiteboard/chart paper as you count. Ask: "Now, how many eggs do we have? Can anyone tell me which number this is? (Point to the written number.)"
After counting, engage kids in an egg-decorating activity. Hand out paper eggs for them to decorate with crayons and stickers. Encourage them to count the stickers they use on each egg!
Once the decoration is complete, gather the children back together and ask: "How many stickers did you use on your egg? Let’s count them! And do you remember how many eggs we started with? Great counting everyone! Now let’s get ready for our Easter egg hunt!"
This activity will not only kickstart your lesson in a fun and interactive way but also reinforce basic math skills through play and creativity. Happy Easter counting, little learners! 🐰🥚✨
