Paste the text of an essay for grading | Playing leisure is a method that enables children to grow in very creative ways. It improves balance and movement. It gets them alongside others for example, creativity isn't just in the classroom it's an opportunity that helps others learn, play and share and build friendships. And this can be done indoors and outdoors. Play is very important because it helps children express themselves, their feelings. They can build confidence for activities. It improves things like skills, creativity, decision making. Every child is different and therefore how they play or choose to access leisure is quite different as well. There is difference between play leisure and adult led activities for example, play and leisure are what children choose and what they want to do. What it should be is fun, relaxed, something that helps them learn on their prerogative. This isn't the same with adult led activities. And the reason why adult led activities are usually planned and they're very structured. They have specific goals and therefore outcomes. The more that these are structured, there's that possibility that creativity does not happen. There's not as much free flow as when children play on their terms. When you look at adult led activities, leisure and play, it's important that there is a fine balance. Children have the opportunity to play, but the outcome is what's needed in terms of the curriculum. All children have the right to relax, play and have fun activities. Because they go into formal education doesn't mean that they stopped. According to the Article 31 of the UNCRC, it's important for children to have recreation and play for their wellbeing. Some children may not get the opportunity. In other environments, for example home, it may be that there isn't safe space to play, or there isn't room to play, or there's other external facts. It's up to teaching assistants and teachers to be able to give that opportunity of learning space and time to enjoy play. That again is on children's terms. My role in supporting play and leisure can be quite different. I feel like I have to step back a lot and watch children play. But before they can play, I have to make sure the environment is safe due to health and safety. Because nobody has fun if they get hurt. It's about looking at the activities, what's age and ability set. I have to use my imagination a little bit to get creative because the more that these activities are fun to access, it means that children can use their imagination as well, which I feel is important to make sure that all children has access to play and leisure, including English as a second language. Looks after children special educational needs. It's getting them the right support in the right way, but in a way that they don't realise because they're having fun with play and leisure. |
