Weather Wonders: A Fun Lesson Start!
Introduction
Welcome to our lesson on Weather! Today, we are going to explore the different types of weather we experience every day. But first, let’s kick off our lesson with a fun and engaging activity!
Activity: Weather Wheel Whirl
Objective
To grab the students' attention and get them excited about learning about weather!
Materials Needed
- A simple paper plate (one for each student)
- Coloured markers or crayons
- Scissors
- A small paper arrow or a pencil to use as a spinner
Instructions
-
Preparation: Before the lesson, prepare by cutting the paper plates in half. Each student will receive one half.
-
Design the Weather Wheel:
- Give each student their paper plate half.
- Ask them to divide their plates into four sections, like a pizza.
- In each section, they will draw different types of weather: sunny, rainy, windy, and snowy. Encourage them to use lots of bright colours!
-
Create the Spinning Arrow:
- Help students create a small arrow using a piece of paper or a pencil. Attach it to the centre of the plate with a split pin or tape, allowing it to spin freely.
-
Spin and Share:
- Once everyone has created their weather wheel, have each student take turns spinning their wheel.
- When the arrow lands on a type of weather, encourage them to say a sentence about that weather! For example, “It is sunny today, and I can wear my sunglasses!”
Discussion
After spinning, lead a short discussion:
- Questions to Ask:
- What type of weather do we see most often in Australia?
- How does the weather affect our daily activities?
- What clothes do we wear during different weather types?
Conclusion
This fun and creative start will engage all students and set the stage for deeper learning about the weather. Let’s dive into our exciting lesson and explore more about our changing skies! 🌤️💧🌪️❄️
