Good morning, Year 3! 🌞 Today, we're going to embark on a fun adventure in the world of mathematics, specifically exploring Data Picture Graphs!
Imagine you're at the school fair, and each stall is selling a different type of yummy treat: 🍭 Lollipops, 🍕 Pizza, 🍪 Cookies, and 🎈 Balloons! You and your friends want to know which treat is the most popular.
To find this out, we’re going to gather some data and create a picture graph! But first, let’s find out more about what a picture graph is and how it can help us.
A picture graph uses pictures or symbols to represent data. For example, if we want to show how many of each treat was sold at the fair, we can draw a picture of the treat next to a number to show how many were sold.
Let’s pretend we have asked 10 students in our class about their favourite treat from the fair. Here are their responses:
Now, here’s the exciting part! We'll use this data to create our very own picture graph.
By the end of this lesson, you'll have your very own picture graph to display the treat preferences of our class, plus you'll see how data can be easily represented visually!
Ready? Grab your pencils and let’s start drawing our picture graph! 📊✨
