Objective: Get students excited about learning English through an engaging and interactive lesson opener.
Gather the students in a circle on the colorful blanket. Place the stuffed animal in the center of the circle. Explain to the children that they are about to embark on a Word Adventure together!
Introduce the Word Cards: Show the colorful word cards and explain that each card has a special word on it.
Tossing the Words: Pick a child to help you randomly select a word card from the basket. As they draw a card, help them read the word aloud. For instance, if the card says "happy," say, "This word is 'happy!' Can anyone show me their happiest face?"
Acting Out the Words: Invite the students to create actions for the word. If the word is "jump," have everyone jump together! If the word is "funny," encourage children to make silly faces or sounds.
After a few actions, pull out the soft musical toy. Explain that every time they hear a sound from the toy, they will freeze like a statue and then transform into something or someone that relates to the last word they acted out. For example, if the word was "swim," they could pretend to swim!
Wrap up the lesson opener by sitting back down in the circle. Ask students how the words made them feel during the adventure. Highlight that English is filled with magical words that can express feelings and actions.
Say something like, "Now that we've had our word adventure, let’s dive deeper into the magical world of English and learn even more about our favorite words!"
This interactive lesson opener not only engages young learners but also encourages movement, creativity, and participation. It's a fun way to spark curiosity about the English language and set a positive tone for the rest of the lesson!
