Rainforests are like magical kingdoms filled with lush greenery, towering trees, and incredible animals! But what makes them so special? Let’s explore some amazing facts together.
Home to Diverse Species: Did you know that rainforests are home to more than 50% of the world's plant and animal species while covering only about 6% of the Earth's surface? You might find monkeys swinging, colourful birds flying, and even hidden insects!
Layers of Life: Rainforests have different layers, from the forest floor, which is dark and damp, to the canopy, where the treetops are full of life. Each layer has its unique plants and animals!
Rain, Rain, Go Away!: Rainforests get a lot of rain – about 2000 to 4000 millimetres each year! This plentiful water is what makes the rainforest so lush and green.
Now it’s time to put our thinking caps on! I have a fun activity for you.
Draw: Grab a piece of paper and some coloured pencils. Design an animal that could live in the rainforest. What does it look like? Does it have bright colours or unique features?
Name it: Think of a cool name for your creature. Is it a “Stripey Tree Monkey” or maybe a “Rainbow Beetle”?
Tell its Story: Write a few sentences about where your creature lives in the rainforest and what it eats. Is it a friend to other animals, or does it have a secret power?
