Introduction: The Magic Letter Map

Welcome, young explorers! Today, we are going on a special adventure to discover the magical world of phonics! Are you ready?

Objective

Our journey today will help us learn how letters and sounds work together to create words. By the end of our adventure, you will be phonics wizards, able to read and write new words with confidence!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before we set off on our adventure, let’s gather what we need:

• A blank piece of paper or a phonics journal for notes
• A set of colored crayons or markers
• Your listening ears and imagination!

Step 2: Set the Scene

Phonics Map

Imagine we are explorers charting a new land! On our Phonics Map, we will find magical letters that hold the secrets to new sounds.

Activity: Create Your Own Phonics Map

1. On your paper, draw a big treasure chest in the center.
2. Around the treasure chest, draw five different paths leading to it.
3. Each path will represent a different letter: S, A, T, I, P. Each time you see these letters, we will make the sounds they represent!

Step 3: Sound the Alarm!

Bell Ringer Activity

Now, let’s ring the phonics bell! When I say a letter sound, show me the path on your map that matches. For example:

• If I say, “/s/”, point to the path that starts with the letter S.

• A: “a”
• T: “t”
• I: “i”
• P: “p”

Group Participation

Let’s all make the sounds together! On the count of three, we’ll sound them out loud like a team of brave explorers!

Step 4: Claim Your Treasure!

Now that we are phonics adventurers, we’re ready to open our treasure chest! Inside this treasure, we will find magical words!

Word Hunt Activity

1. I will give you a sound, and you need to think of a word that begins with that sound.
2. For example, if I say “/s/,” you can say “sun” or “snake.”
3. Each correct word will be a golden coin for your treasure chest!

Closing

As our adventure comes to an end, let’s share some of the words we discovered. Each of you can take a turn to share a word, and we will celebrate our new phonics knowledge together!
