Teacher's Script:
"Good morning, everyone! Are you ready for a math adventure today? 🕵️♂️🔍 Today, we are going to become Shape Detectives! We are going to explore the magical world of shapes that are all around us.
First, let’s gather around our cozy reading corner for a story! We'll read Mouse Shapes.
(As you read, pause to point out the shapes in the illustrations. Encourage children to shout out the names of the shapes whenever they see them!)
After the story, it’s time for some fun!
Tell the children: “Now, let’s go on a shape hunt! I have hidden some shapes around the classroom. When you find one, shout out its name and put it in our treasure chest!”
Hide large colored paper shapes around the classroom in various spots.
Encourage the kids to work together as they find each shape. You can help them as they identify and sort shapes into the cardboard box.
Once all shapes are collected, gather back to the carpet and discuss what shapes they found.
Ask: “What is your favorite shape? Why?”
Craft Time:
Finish with some closing questions:
Celebrate each child's participation and creativity, ending the class with a fun shape chant or song!
Math is all around us! Keep an eye out for those shapes in your home and when you’re out and about! 🌟
By turning the start of your math lesson into an adventure, you engage children’s imaginations and create a fun learning environment that fosters exploration and excitement for math!
