(Begin the lesson by gathering the children in a comfortable reading circle.)
"Good morning, Super Readers! Today, we’re going to go on a special reading adventure! 🌟 But first, can anyone tell me what a story is?"
(Allow students to share their ideas. Encourage responses like "a tale," "something you read," or "stories about princesses and superheroes." Make sure to affirm their thoughts.)
"Imagine if stories could take us anywhere! We could soar high in the sky with birds, dive deep in the ocean with fish, or even go to outer space to meet aliens! 🛸 What do you think?"
(Encourage students to share their thoughts on where they'd like to go if they could jump into a story.)
"Now, let me show you how amazing stories can be! I have a special book with me today, and it has colorful pictures and magical words. But first, I want you all to close your eyes and picture your favorite place. What does it look like? Who is there with you?"
(Pause for students to close their eyes and visualize. After a short moment, encourage them to open their eyes.)
"Okay, Super Readers! Now I want you to turn to your neighbor and tell them about your favorite place and who is with you there!"
(Give students a minute or two to share before gathering them back to the circle.)
"Now that we have all these amazing places in our minds, are you ready to open a book and see where our next adventure takes us? Let’s explore a wonderful story together!”
(Begin reading a chosen story, engaging the students with questions about the characters and illustrations as you go along.)
"Remember, every time we open a book, we can go on a brand new adventure. So let’s become great explorers in the world of stories!"
Discussion: After reading, ask students what they liked about the story and where they would like to go on their next reading adventure.
