Welcome to the World of Fractions!

Introduction: The Fraction Quest

Good morning, Year 6!

Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure where we will explore the world of fractions. But before we dive into numbers, let’s set the stage with a little storytelling!

The Legend of the Fraction Fairies

Once upon a time, in a magical land called Mathlandia, there lived tiny creatures known as Fraction Fairies. These fairies loved to share delicious pies, cakes, and chocolates with one another. However, they faced a big challenge: They had to divide their treats equally!

The fairies had a special language – the language of fractions. They would use fractions to ensure that each fairy received their fair share of treats, whether it was one half of a pie or three-quarters of a chocolate cake.

The Mission

Today, you are all apprentices to the Fraction Fairies! Your mission is to help them solve some tricky sharing problems. Will you be able to figure out how to divide the treasure of cakes and pies evenly among the fairies?

Getting Started: Fraction Challenge

Picture This!

Imagine you have a big chocolate cake. If you cut it into 8 equal pieces, how many pieces does each fairy get if there are 4 fairies sharing it?
